Home safe from Manila

I’ve gotten several messages asking me if I made it home from my trip to Manila last week. A lot of you have probably heard about Super Typhoon Haiyan that hit the Philippines over the weekend. I left Friday morning, and there was something very surreal about sitting in the Manila airport watching coverage of the typhoon make landfall. It has been named one of the strongest storms on record. The devastation to Tacloban and nearby cities is catastrophic in areas, and the death toll estimates range from 1,000 to 10,000. All of this, to an area that recently had a 7.2 earthquake. Heartbreaking.

If you would like to donate to relief organizations, the Red Cross and UMCOR are both mobilizing resources to meet immediate needs.

  1. So glad to hear that you are home safely. This blogosphere world is surreal – of course I don’t know you at all, but I feel as though I do, and I’ve been concerned. I even mentioned it to my husband. Again, glad you are home.
