One dress, two ways—wear the same dress for different climates

As the polar vortex crosses the nation (again) I am debating what to pack for my trip this week. I’ll be heading up north, so I need to be warm. But I’m going to have a few really longs days so would prefer to wear dresses for the comfort factor. My go-to dress is my favorite purple short-sleeved sheath from Boden, which I wore last week when it was 80 degrees. How to transition it so it makes sense for lower forties to early fifties? Time to layer it up!

Last week when it was warm I wore the dress on its own, with nude flats and a yellow statement necklace. Simple, yes, but I just didn’t need more than that! I’ve also worn it with yellow flats and a gold necklace, and black flats and a turquoise necklace.

This week, I am going to add layers to keep me warm. A gray blazer (or cardigan, if that’s more your style), cozy sweater tights, and flat boots will protect me from the frigid temperatures. A scarf and pair of studs adds a pop of color, and of course I will also bring my winter coat!

My turquoise Lo and Sons OG works with both looks, and carries everything I need for a long day on the road.

If you’re lucky enough to have warm weather check out my one dress two ways for summer.

Readers, what are you packing this fall to keep you warm?
