April Birchbox Review

Birchbox AprilI resisted the subscription box craze for a long time. “I have so much beauty stuff! I just spent all that time cleaning out my makeup bag and getting rid of old products!” Etc. But a few months ago I was at a friend’s house when her Birchbox came in, and I’m not going to lie, it was awesome. It’s like a little present, all wrapped up, just for you! The boxes are so pretty, and the products are chosen with your skin type, hair type, and coloring in mind. Beyond getting fun new beauty stuff, the sample sizes are fantastic for travel.

I had a few initial concerns. What do I do with stuff that doesn’t work for me? Is there a cancellation fee? Where do I put all of these boxes that are too pretty to throw away?? Now that I’ve subscribed for a few months, I have answers. If there are ever any products that don’t work for me I simply give them to my mom, sisters, or other friends. It’s not a big deal. You can cancel at any time, so if you ever feel like you’re overrun with samples and boxes then you can cancel. As for the boxes, there are some crafty ideas on Pinterest, but I’ve been using them to store my samples (separated by hair, skin, and makeup) and wrap gifts.

Although it’s been difficult, I have thus far resisted the temptation to subscribe to all the boxes. Sephora, Target, FabFitFun, etc. I have a friend in my mom’s group who subscribes (I think) to ten different boxes. Talk about being overrun with samples! Also, while I think it is a great idea to take your samples as your toiletries on business trips I recommend trying everything at home first. You don’t want to be traveling while having a bad reaction to a new product!Birchbox April

Here is what I received on Monday in the April Birchbox:

Amika Bombshell Blowout Spray. I used this during my blowout yesterday and I love it. It smells great and added just enough volume and texture to my normally wavy hair. The travel size is $10, the full size is $24.

Living Proof Perfect hair Day Dry Shampoo. Dry shampoo is a godsend for frequent travelers who don’t have time to wash their hair
every day. I’ve used Batiste for a while but I like this one even more. It didn’t leave the white residue that you often see, and my hair looked amazing for third-day. Travel size $12, and full size $25.

Marcelle BB Cream Golden Glow. This BB cream feels great, but maybe a tad yellow for my pre-summer skin. I think in a few months it will be perfect. Full size is $29.

Michael Todd Blue Green Algae Antibacterial Toner. LOVE THIS. Probably my favorite thing in the entire box. Refreshing, cooling, and even after just two days my skin looks brighter. Will be going on all trips with me this summer! Full size is $19.

GRLPWR Lips Liquid Lipstick in Imma Bawse. Dark, gorgeous color. Maybe a bit much for a day in the office but perfect for evening events. It stayed on for several hours (and two glasses of wine). Full size $15.

  1. You can also take any samples you can’t use down to your local women’s shelter. I save up until I have a decent number and take them down, together with any business class amenities kits I have collected over the past few months (refilled from the dollar store/drugstore for the things I used) and a few boxes of tampons and pads (always needed). They are always very pleased to get them.
