The search for the perfect travel purse can feel never ending. You find a super cute bag with great pockets but no zipper. Or an incredibly functional bag that is also incredibly boring. Or worse yet, a bag that seems to be everything you wished for, and then breaks on your second use. Business travelers are hard on their purses, and we need bags that are incredibly tough and well made, with lots of pockets, that zips, and (hopefully) makes you happy to look at.

If you’ve read this blog for any period of time, you know that I love my Lo and Sons O.G. I have had the black one for close to three years, and is the best travel purse I’ve ever used (see my original review here). Recently, Lo and Sons came out with a number of improvements to the O.G. that have made it better than ever, not to mention some beautiful new colors. They sent me a Sky Blue O.G. to review, and here are my thoughts.

The new features:

Messenger strap. My old O.G. had two handles. The new O.G. still has those, and they fit over all of my coats just fine. However, if you have super bulky clothes on or just don’t want to use those straps, it now comes with a messenger strap as an extra carrying option.

Padding on interior. There is additional padding now on the interior that keeps your laptop and other belongings even safer.

Even more pockets. The O.G. has a pocket for your laptop, another large pocket for folders or magazines, plus two smaller pockets and a zippered pocket, all on the inside. They now also have three zippered pockets on the outside, and one of them has slots for pens, a passport, and other small items.

Something I noticed, in addition to the obvious new features, is that the bag seems to distribute the weight inside better than before. When traveling, I found I wanted to keep checking to make sure I had my laptop because it felt too light. Also, one of my favorite things about the O.G. is that it holds so much stuff—today I had my laptop, a Kindle, magazines, wallet and phone, a huge water bottle, a scarf, a jacket, and a few random things—it zipped just fine, plus held its shape. And however much stuff I put in it, it will still fit under the seat in front of me.

Finally, I can’t do a review without talking about the colors. Over the past year, Lo and Sons has offered an array of new colors for the O.G. including hot pink, royal blue, purple, and of course, the Sky Blue. The Sky Blue is a lovely, vibrant shade of turquoise, and I love it SO MUCH. I got a comment a few days ago wondering if it is professional enough. My opinion is that unless you are in an incredibly conservative office environment, it will definitely come across as professional. However, if you’re concerned about being overly bright, the black is classic for a reason.

Note: The website says it will only hold a 13″ laptop, but mine is 14.1 and it fits fine.

Overall, I can’t recommend this bag enough to frequent travelers. It is incredibly functional, will hold everything a road warriorette needs, and looks great doing it. I get compliments everywhere I go!

You may be wondering how to get one of these amazing bags for yourself. One option is to go to the Lo and Sons website and get 25% off thru the end of October using the code RDWARRIORETTE2013. Another option is to enter this giveaway! One reader will win an O.G. in their choice of color. All you have to do is leave a comment answering the following question: What is the most important thing you look for in a travel purse? The contest will end Monday, October 28, with the winner chosen randomly soon after. As always, only one entry per person.

Good luck!!!

Comments

  1. Comfort and then size. I used to take a backpack when travelling but it was getting a bit ratty and not something a “buisness” traveler should probably be using. So I found a purse/bag with a wide strap that doesn’t feel like it’s weighing me down.

I’d still choose the backpack if I thought I could get away with it though.

  2. Lots of organized pockets in a brightly colored interior. I am particularly attracted to florecent pink!

  3. I look for something that pleases my demanding wife! Even with the generous discount you arranged I can’t quite stretch to buying a new one, though I know she’d love it. Let me win and I’ll surprise my wife with it on her birthday next month!

  4. It HAS to to hold my laptop! I can make any bag work as long as my laptop and its protective case fit inside it. If it can’t, it’s a no go.

  5. A shape that makes it quick to pull a laptop out and shove it back in post-security without destroying everything else in the bag.

  6. Lots of pockets to keep things organized! I like my money separate from my passport, and places for my kindle, laptop, and other paperwork.

  7. Size (large enough to fit my kindle and immediate necessities but small enough to count as a ‘personal item’) and durability – it’s going to see a lot of action!

  8. I like to see a “secret” security pocket or section for cash, credit card(s), passport, etc.

  9. Lots of pockets so things stay where I put them. Also the ability to stand up. I hate when I set my purse on a counter and it tips over.

  10. Laptop section, and good handles! Ability to sit comfortably on my shoulders as I race through the terminal is important. Great review, I’ll have to check the O.G. out!

  11. I’m the one who asked about the color earlier! Thanks for your answer. For me the most important thing about a travel bag is that it’s durable.

  12. (1) A zipper so that all my stuff doesn’t fall out when I have to stuff it under the seat on an airplane
    (2) Handles long enough to allow me to carry the bag on my shoulder

  13. The #1 thing I look for is that it is a LO AND SONS BAG!!!! I LOVE mine, but I spilled 24 ounces of coffee in it recently, and haven’t been able to get the stains out. I would love a new one!!!

  14. It’s got to be the perfect size. Big enough to hold my laptop and other carry-on necessities, but not too big that it won’t fit underneath the seat in front of me on the plane. Easy and comfortable to carry comes at a close second! This bag sounds amazing 🙂

  15. I love a bag that is easy to clean/wipe after I travel, so I don’t have to worry about placing it on potentially dirty airplane floors, airport tables, etc. Wipeability followed by pockets/dividers, roomy enough, and a nice cross-strap so I can be hands-free when needed!

  16. The #1 thing I look for is the bag is light. If the bag is already heavy BEFORE you put anything in it, it will be difficult to carry when full. Pockets/zippered components next.

  17. A zipper to keep things from falling out under the airplane seat. I also love bags that can slip over the handles of a suitcase.

  18. I can’t narrow my travel bag preferences down to just one, so I will give you my top three: 1-small enough to fit under the airplane seat but also large enough to fit all of my stuff. 2-pockets…lots and lots of them to keep my stuff organized. 3-looks professional because I often use my carry-on bag to take to work meetings after I arrive at my final destination.

  19. Wide opening at the top,for easy access, and the bag has to stand up by itself, no slouching over… It also has to fit under the seat in front of me. Nothing worse than a bag that won’t fit.

  20. While there are many things I look for in a travel purse- long enough handles to easily go over my shoulders, with a coat on, space to hold all my stuff, a way to organize it, zippers, etc. The most important thing is an outside pocket that zips. Someplace where I can put my travel documents, have easy access to them, but keep them safe until then.

  21. Lightweight, multiple compartments (especially outside pockets), long and short strap for cross body or wrist carrying, fit easily under a plane seat, and material that can be cleaned with an antibacterial wipe…handbags are the dirtiest!

  22. Lightweight and an organization style to hold my cards for business, travel, and personal stuff, which I like to keep separate.

  23. I look for a bag that is easy to carry and that closes tight – I’m always afraid of stuff falling out!
