Road Warriorette Weekend Express

Hey readers! Got a question or something you want to discuss this weekend?  Here’s the perfect opportunity!  Whether you want to share an Weekend Express picinteresting travel story, a packing tip, an etiquette tip, or anything else going on in the business travel world, comment here and we’ll have a discussion.

Travel tip of the week:

  • Decant your toiletries. Unless you’re traveling for months at a time you won’t need more than 3 oz. of most toiletries, including shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Use refillable bottles to take your favorites with you (just make sure it doesn’t explode). For many liquids you need far less than 3 oz.—I keep my face wash, moisturizer, eye cream, and primer in spare contact lens cases. (Related: My full list of travel toiletry tips.)

Comments of the week:

  • This week I wrote a post on carryons causing injuries.  @Skipper is our comment of the week and said “What airlines need to do is make it mandatory for all customers to test their luggage in one of those little sizing frames they have in the airports — and which I’ve never, ever seen used. In addition, those frames need to be situated horizontally about six feet off the ground. If the passenger can’t lift the bag and get it into the frame, the bag is checked. Problem solved.”

Readers, chime in with what’s on your mind! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

  1. Love the Newsweek cover – they pegged it. The real issue in tech is the default position that the woman can’t possibly know what she’s talking about. If a woman says something controversial, the audience will say to a man: “can you clarify?” The assumption is that the person is missing some data. To the woman they will say “you expect me to believe that?” The assumption is the woman is an idiot. It’s an uphill battle from there. Many times the woman has to escalate to be heard and then she’s “too aggressive”.
This is reflected in the Forbes article on performance reviews for women. Over 70% of high performing tech women get “too aggressive” on their performance reviews. Less than 20% of men get that comment.
The root cause is misogyny, not the woman.
