The search for the perfect travel purse can feel never ending. You find a super cute bag with great pockets but no zipper. Or an incredibly functional bag that is also incredibly boring. Or worse yet, a bag that seems to be everything you wished for, and then breaks on your second use. Business travelers are hard on their purses, and we need bags that are incredibly tough and well made, with lots of pockets, that zips, and (hopefully) makes you happy to look at.
If you’ve read this blog for any period of time, you know that I love my Lo and Sons O.G. I have had the black one for close to three years, and is the best travel purse I’ve ever used (see my original review here). Recently, Lo and Sons came out with a number of improvements to the O.G. that have made it better than ever, not to mention some beautiful new colors. They sent me a Sky Blue O.G. to review, and here are my thoughts.
The new features:
Messenger strap. My old O.G. had two handles. The new O.G. still has those, and they fit over all of my coats just fine. However, if you have super bulky clothes on or just don’t want to use those straps, it now comes with a messenger strap as an extra carrying option.
Padding on interior. There is additional padding now on the interior that keeps your laptop and other belongings even safer.
Even more pockets. The O.G. has a pocket for your laptop, another large pocket for folders or magazines, plus two smaller pockets and a zippered pocket, all on the inside. They now also have three zippered pockets on the outside, and one of them has slots for pens, a passport, and other small items.
Something I noticed, in addition to the obvious new features, is that the bag seems to distribute the weight inside better than before. When traveling, I found I wanted to keep checking to make sure I had my laptop because it felt too light. Also, one of my favorite things about the O.G. is that it holds so much stuff—today I had my laptop, a Kindle, magazines, wallet and phone, a huge water bottle, a scarf, a jacket, and a few random things—it zipped just fine, plus held its shape. And however much stuff I put in it, it will still fit under the seat in front of me.
Finally, I can’t do a review without talking about the colors. Over the past year, Lo and Sons has offered an array of new colors for the O.G. including hot pink, royal blue, purple, and of course, the Sky Blue. The Sky Blue is a lovely, vibrant shade of turquoise, and I love it SO MUCH. I got a comment a few days ago wondering if it is professional enough. My opinion is that unless you are in an incredibly conservative office environment, it will definitely come across as professional. However, if you’re concerned about being overly bright, the black is classic for a reason.
Note: The website says it will only hold a 13″ laptop, but mine is 14.1 and it fits fine.
Overall, I can’t recommend this bag enough to frequent travelers. It is incredibly functional, will hold everything a road warriorette needs, and looks great doing it. I get compliments everywhere I go!
You may be wondering how to get one of these amazing bags for yourself. One option is to go to the Lo and Sons website and get 25% off thru the end of October using the code RDWARRIORETTE2013. Another option is to enter this giveaway! One reader will win an O.G. in their choice of color. All you have to do is leave a comment answering the following question: What is the most important thing you look for in a travel purse? The contest will end Monday, October 28, with the winner chosen randomly soon after. As always, only one entry per person.
Good luck!!!
easy-to-reach, organized compartments. nothing is worse than having to dig to find a pen or find your keys or find your wallet buried in everything else while pulling a suitcase around too.
Pockets. Lots of them.
Laptop compartment and made of sturdy materials that stands up to wear and tear.
I need a separate compartment for my laptop. Exterior and interior pockets and lots of space without being too heavy.
Lots of pockets of different sizes (and one the right size for my smartphone!) and a strap or open pocket flap so it will fit over my roller bag handle.
Light weight, durable, organized sections, not too big and not too small.
Zippers! I hate having my stuff slide out.
I always carry a lot of stuff in my regular purse. This means a travel purse has to carry a ton! But the bag itself can’t be too heavy, I have made that mistake before! It needs to be light but protective!
Most important thing is zippers! I don’t want things falling out.
Organized compartments. You’ve got to know where your passport, wallet, phone, etc. are at any given time, and it’s so much easier when you have exact places to put them!
I look for the most amount of space in a still manageable size bag!! It has to be able to hold a lot of goodies. 🙂
A zipper to keep everything inside during take off and landing!
Organization – lots of pockets and dividers including a separate section for my laptop. And I love that my current bag has a clip for my keys so I know they are secure after days of traveling.
That its big enough that my GF doesn’t mind taking on my extra stuff!
Compartments for lipsticks and makeup! Girl got to look good!
The most important thing for me is internal organization. I hate when papers get caught under my computer and bent/folded. I also must have a top zip bag, because I always cram too much into a tote or purse!
Must have laptop protection with space to put all laptop / work accessories, pens, mouse, pens and paper with a little pocket for lipstick / compact 😉
Must be stylish, just because I have to carry a laptop doesn’t mean I can’t be cute.
Also, long & sturdy straps and lots and lots of compartments inside and outside so I’m not rooting around like a bag lady when I need something.
The most important thing in a travel bag to me? Room and organization…it has to be able to hold everything I need, but I can’t be digging around the bag for days to find my chapstick! From what I’ve seen of Lo and Sons, this bag solves those problems, with ample pockets and compartments to keep EVERYTHING you need in it’s place 🙂
An inside zipper & light weight!
Large enough to hold laptop but not too large, must have zippers, and exterior zippered pockets.
The Lo & Sons O.G. bag is perfect because it has just the right number of pockets to keep me organized on business trips, a travel purse must. Lightweight design is a big bonus!
Large enough for my iPad, headphones, and pashmina, small enough to make me look like I know what I’m doing when I travel. 😀
Lots of pockets! I like to have spaces for different categories of small items.
Pockets to keep things organized so I find them easily. I like to make sure my boarding pass & phone are easy to reach. Plenty of space to hold my wallet, glasses case, laptop, iPad, book or magazine, etc without being too big.
Plenty of organizational pockets inside and an outside pocket for easy to reach items such as cell phone, boarding pass, and the all important lip balm are a must. I’m also picky about the way a zipper feels when I zip it closed. I want it to feel smooth. It helps me feel assured my items are safe. If a bag can do all that and look great I’m sold!
My wife tells me that travel is stressful. She requires lots of pocket and compartments so that she can find what she needs with a minimum of effort.
Extra pockets
I look for a bag that hold a lot but doesn’t look frumpy. Also something that can go throughout the day. Often I go from a meeting to dinner and don’t want to look like I’m hauling my whole life along with me. I also like the bag to be an accessory and stylish. Who says I can’t have it all?
My wife looks for a bag that is easy to carry and allows her to organize all her stuff. Looking nice while being professional is also key.
Different sized pockets and some with zippers, so I don’t spend too much time looking for what I need. Not too heavy when it’s packed, and it’s able to easily fit under the seat in front of me.
Lots of different sized pockets
Well placed, organized pockets.
A zippable top! I don’t want to have to worry about any items falling out of the bag…
A separate, secure place for my passport, an external pocket for my boarding pass, and an easy-access place where my cellphone can be without risking smashing the screen.
A bag where it’s easy to pull things out as I go through TSA. I travel with a fair number of medical supplies, and despite the fact that I’m not *supposed* to have to take them out of my bag, I always do to avoid extra screening after the guy running the xray inevitably flags my bag.
I require zippers that keep things secure and can withstand the multiple times I use them daily.
Lots of room because I just can’t seem to pack lightly but also a way to find all that stuff I packed in easily! And somehow look stylish despite it all! 🙂
Organization! I need to have things organized, and built-in pockets save room by not needing to add my own pouches.
lots of different size pockets but not at the expense of smart look!
The bag has to be lightweight. A long, detachable strap and handles are a must. The top opening has to be wide enough to make removing my laptop easy and have enough padding to protect it. Interior zippered pockets that are thought through – 3 exterior pockets – one for my liquids bag, one for glasses and cell phone and one for travel documents. Key clip is a bonus – as are slots for business cards and pens.
Zippers. When I’m truly on the go, I don’t want to worry about rain getting in or things getting out.
Pockets for organization and plenty of zippers to keep everything in place.
A bag that will hold a lot, with easy access to what’s inside. Also, it has to appeal to my wife, since it will be hers.
durability under developing world conditions!
Size, followed closely by a zipper closure.
I personally dont carry a purse, or a murse for that matter, but my wife likes a purse which is easy to get into yet secure enough where things wont fall out if held in an awkward position.
I look for a bag that is not too heavy.
I look for a very light bag with many pockets!
I look for easy access storage for my laptop, to make security as easy as possible. Other than that, any material that does not stain easily is a major plus!!
