Road Warriorette Weekend Express

Hey readers! Got a question or something you want to discuss this weekend?  Here’s the perfect opportunity!  Whether you want to share an Weekend Express picinteresting travel story, a packing tip, an etiquette tip, or anything else going on in the business travel world, comment here and we’ll have a discussion.

Travel tip of the week:

  • Carefully read your flight notifications.  Even though often all the needless flight notifications are annoying, make sure you double check the details on each one. On a trip last month I was almost mistakenly put on a flight that I couldn’t possibly make.  Luckily I checked the notification, caught the mistake, and was able to get it resolved.  If I hadn’t I would have had a horrible time trying to fix this after missing the flight.

Week in review:

Here are travel news stories that caught my eye this week:

Comment of the week:

“One thing to mention – people that haven’t grown up in Tornado Alley don’t know the signs of bad weather. It’s one thing to read about it, another to actually see it and go uh-oh! Many newbies will look right at the bad weather and not realize the danger that they are in. Another thing people don’t understand is that a Severe Thunderstorm Warning is also an alert for smaller tornados (F0-F2). Even though these tornados are smaller, you’ll still be hurting if you take a direct hit. Seek shelter in an interior room if you get a severe thunderstorm warning for your area.

There are several smart phone apps for bad weather. Red Cross has a free one called Tornado. You can program in the location where you are at and get alerts for the area. I have an app called Weather Alerts that actually does dynamic tracking by location (great for car trips).

The NOAA Storm Prediction Center has a nice FAQ that I like:
http://www.spc.noaa.gov/faq/tornado/#Safety
And for what it’s worth, you can get storm predictions a week out at the SPC site:
http://www.spc.noaa.gov/ “

Readers, chime in with what’s on your mind! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

  1. I’ve never seen any discussion of doing the point/miles game/hobby after retirement (when you perhaps can best make use of miles and points). This would mainly be in the credit card area. Will the banks slash your credit limits the first time you apply with the presumably lower income? I guess since you could give 1040 income that 401k distributions and social security count, but other built up savings would not have much impact? Would just limits be affected or the number of cards, or would it just be a total credit limit issue.

So many travelers are retired it seems the area deserves at least one write-up by somebody. It seems like a void that some retired traveler could have a blog on (maybe me in a couple of years).
