Travel tip of the week:

• Carefully read your flight notifications.  Even though often all the needless flight notifications are annoying, make sure you double check the details on each one. On a trip last month I was almost mistakenly put on a flight that I couldn’t possibly make.  Luckily I checked the notification, caught the mistake, and was able to get it resolved.  If I hadn’t I would have had a horrible time trying to fix this after missing the flight.

Week in review:

• I agree. I think they have a great program for domestic travelers. Southwest offers best airline rewards program, according to survey. via @foxnewstravel
• Even though Southwest had the most available reward seats, all the major U.S. carriers increased availability year over year. Best (And Worst) Airlines Offering Reward Travel Miles. via @NBCNews

Comment of the week:

• This week I did a post on severe weather safety for business travelers. @Lady Light Travel is our comment of the week and said

“One thing to mention – people that haven’t grown up in Tornado Alley don’t know the signs of bad weather. It’s one thing to read about it, another to actually see it and go uh-oh! Many newbies will look right at the bad weather and not realize the danger that they are in. Another thing people don’t understand is that a Severe Thunderstorm Warning is also an alert for smaller tornados (F0-F2). Even though these tornados are smaller, you’ll still be hurting if you take a direct hit. Seek shelter in an interior room if you get a severe thunderstorm warning for your area.

There are several smart phone apps for bad weather. Red Cross has a free one called Tornado. You can program in the location where you are at and get alerts for the area. I have an app called Weather Alerts that actually does dynamic tracking by location (great for car trips).
