Is it possible to find a quality rolling briefcase for business travel under $100? Reader L asks…
Hi Road Warriorette! I have been traveling regularly for work for years and am usually gone for 3 days. I found out that over the next year I’ll be doing a lot of one day trips and I think I need a rolling briefcase. I’ve had shoulder issues over the years and don’t want to carry a heavy bag. I can’t spend more than $100 and would prefer a black one that’s not ugly. Do you have any suggestions?
Oh man. Those one day trips can be so hard! After flight delays last week I inadvertently took a one day trip. I used my backpack and it was so much better than my heavy shoulder bag. That being said, if you have had shoulder problems in the past I definitely recommend a rolling briefcase.
There are a ton of options out there but the important things to look for are compartments for everything you need to bring, your preferred wheel type, quality construction, and a trolley strap in case you ever need to use it with a regular suitcase. Also, make sure you look at the dimensions–I’ve used rolling briefcases before that didn’t fit down airplane aisles which was SO frustrating.
Here are a few of my favorite options under $100:
Samsonite Women’s Spinner Mobile Office. (Pictured, left) I love this rolling briefcase for business travel because it has compartments for everything you need, comes from a reliable luggage brand, has a trolley strap, and looks gorgeous. It’s also perfect in case you prefer spinners. The black is currently on sale for 44% off at $98, and there are other colors available.
Kenneth Cole Reaction Women’s Wheeled Carry-on Tote. (Pictured, center) This is another one of my favorites. Not only does it have all the required styling, compartments, and construction, but it has a section that could be used to hold files *or* clothes and shoes. If you have an overnight trip this would be a great option. Available in black or charcoal for $92.
McKlein L Series Bowery Wheeled Laptop Briefcase. (Pictured, right) McKlein has been recommended to me for years by readers. Most of their bags are more in the $150-$200 range, but this one is soooo close to $100 I wanted to include it. All the pockets you could need and a tailored look that would work for anyone make the Bowery a great option.
Readers, do you prefer a rolling briefcase for business travel? Which one do you have?

What about the other end of the price spectrum for tolling briefcases? The over $100 range.
