The hotel is one of the most critical, if not the most critical aspect to a trip. The hotel is where you spend the most time, lay your head down at night, and get ready to face the day. While an adequate hotel may do the job, a really great hotel truly feels like your home away from home. Home2 Suites by Hilton is a great hotel for business and leisure travelers alike.
The 22 properties across the US feature suites with kitchen facilities and work spaces, free wifi, and complimentary breakfast. There are also really lovely outdoor spaces, including a walking track. I really like that they keep sustainability in mind, with recycling centers (why don’t more hotels have these??) and Energy Star appliances. And for the animal lovers, they are pet friendly (yay!). There are currently 20 new Home2 Suites under construction, including one in Mexico. Upcoming properties also include Austin, TX, Rahway, NJ, and Denver, CO.
In addition to having a great hotel, the people at Home2 Suites are super nice and giving away a three night stay for two to a lucky Road Warriorette reader. Woohoo! In order to enter, please leave a comment answering the following question: What is your best packing tip for a first time business traveler? The contest will be open through Monday, September 23, with the winner announced soon after. One entry per person.

Trip = tip? (typo?) – anyhoo, my advice is to wear your blazer/suit jacket on the plane with you if you are running out of bag space; it stays relatively wrinkle free!
If you don’t absolutely need it, don’t pack it.
you need to roll your socks, and fold your pants.
Wear your shoes that are most difficult to pack (ie Large Boots)
Keep a spare change of clothes in your carry-on..
Fill all the voids in suitcase. I fill my shoes with socks!
If I know I’m going on a business trip, I ask my dry cleaners to individually “wrap” my items that I will be taking. The plastic protects from stains/leaks, and also is good at preventing wrinkles.
Pack your bag, then take it all out and remove half of the clothing you were planning on beginning. 9 times out of 10 I end up with unworn clothes on my trip home so I always try to bring less than I think I need!
If you MUST have it with you when you arrive, carry it on, don’t check it!
Pack light and roll all your clothes instead of folding. It will save space!
Anything that is truly important, that you can’t live without, from contacts to your presentation must be in your carry on.
I like this one.

always pack a small power strip “just in case”
eBags are the best, use ’em.
Pack everything in gallon baggies and force the air out. This will make them take up the least space possible. Also, label them.
Use packing folders for nice clothes and plastic grocery bags for less nice stuff (like socks & underwear). They really help compartmentalize sections of your suitcase and keep clean clothes away from dirty shoes!
Always know the closest location of a decent dry cleaners where ever you are staying, just in case of an emergency
Pack make-up pencils! I just learned that tip. 🙂
Don’t overpack!
Best tip is carry-on, and don’t be worried about missing anything because you can always procure on-site once you arrive.
Some hotels do offer toiletries that come in handy in a pinch, and if you forget something you can always try to procure it locally from a store once you arrive and take it back with you.
Pack one change of clothes and non perishable snacks in your carry in luggage.
If you have old clean T-shirts/underware/etc to get rid of.
Take it for one last ride and dispose them after you wear them.
Bring a battery pack! I can’t survive with my dead smartphone and tablet.
Pack light and roll all your clothes instead of folding.
Always have spare clothes with you in your carry-on if you plan on checking your bags.
Bring an extra battery to charge the phone. My one must have piece when travelling.
Always roll the clothes. Seems to be the best way to minimize the wrinkles in my experience!
Bring a power tap (something that converts one power outlet to 3) so that you can share a power outlet with someone. There seem to never be enough power outlets in airports.
Bring an empty suitcase then go shopping for new work clothes. I’ve done that several times when I was starting a long term consulting job. I’d pack a couple outfits but then I’d go shopping after I saw what other people were wearing in the office. Nothing worse than taking all dressy clothes when everyone else was wearing jeans and t shirts.
Bring pictures of my wife and kids, after all, they are the main reason that I am at work. My wife works even harder when I’m not there to help. And I miss them!
better bring it not need it than need it not bring it
My main tip would be to make sure to bring your chargers for all your gadgets! Nothing worse than having a dead phone halfway through your trip!
Packing squares are a lifesaver!! You can fit a lot more stuff
Bring along a travel-sized bottle of Downy Wrinkle Release. It really works to freshen clothes (and even hotel rooms) upon arrival.
Bring earplugs
Take half of what you think you need.
Wrap clothing by type in Individual Plastic bags. Makes it easier to organize and prevents problems with spills etc.
Windbreaker pullover that I roll up and carry in backpack. Very small and great warmth for unexpected temp drops in aircraft or new locations.
use plastic to wrap clothes – prevents wrinkles and squeezes out air to create more space
Don’t forget your phone chargers at home or in the hotel.
Rolling clothes helps to save space
Pack used underwears that you don’t want them and throw them away to make room for other purchased items!
When you come home fromk a trip, take note of what you didn’t wear/use and don’t pack those things for the next time.
Roll your clothes!
Bring some sort of tablet for some quick entertainment.
bundle packing! look it up. It saves space and prevents wrinkles.
Don’t forget phone/tablet/computer chargers
Don’t check luggage. If you do, presume it will be lost.
Make sure your hotel has reliable WiFi.
Bring the beer opener. Sometime after bringing the local beer to the hotel room, I need opener.
