The search for the perfect travel purse can feel never ending. You find a super cute bag with great pockets but no zipper. Or an incredibly functional bag that is also incredibly boring. Or worse yet, a bag that seems to be everything you wished for, and then breaks on your second use. Business travelers are hard on their purses, and we need bags that are incredibly tough and well made, with lots of pockets, that zips, and (hopefully) makes you happy to look at.

If you’ve read this blog for any period of time, you know that I love my Lo and Sons O.G. I have had the black one for close to three years, and is the best travel purse I’ve ever used (see my original review here). Recently, Lo and Sons came out with a number of improvements to the O.G. that have made it better than ever, not to mention some beautiful new colors. They sent me a Sky Blue O.G. to review, and here are my thoughts.

The new features:

Messenger strap. My old O.G. had two handles. The new O.G. still has those, and they fit over all of my coats just fine. However, if you have super bulky clothes on or just don’t want to use those straps, it now comes with a messenger strap as an extra carrying option.

Padding on interior. There is additional padding now on the interior that keeps your laptop and other belongings even safer.

Even more pockets. The O.G. has a pocket for your laptop, another large pocket for folders or magazines, plus two smaller pockets and a zippered pocket, all on the inside. They now also have three zippered pockets on the outside, and one of them has slots for pens, a passport, and other small items.

Something I noticed, in addition to the obvious new features, is that the bag seems to distribute the weight inside better than before. When traveling, I found I wanted to keep checking to make sure I had my laptop because it felt too light. Also, one of my favorite things about the O.G. is that it holds so much stuff—today I had my laptop, a Kindle, magazines, wallet and phone, a huge water bottle, a scarf, a jacket, and a few random things—it zipped just fine, plus held its shape. And however much stuff I put in it, it will still fit under the seat in front of me.

Finally, I can’t do a review without talking about the colors. Over the past year, Lo and Sons has offered an array of new colors for the O.G. including hot pink, royal blue, purple, and of course, the Sky Blue. The Sky Blue is a lovely, vibrant shade of turquoise, and I love it SO MUCH. I got a comment a few days ago wondering if it is professional enough. My opinion is that unless you are in an incredibly conservative office environment, it will definitely come across as professional. However, if you’re concerned about being overly bright, the black is classic for a reason.

Note: The website says it will only hold a 13″ laptop, but mine is 14.1 and it fits fine.

Overall, I can’t recommend this bag enough to frequent travelers. It is incredibly functional, will hold everything a road warriorette needs, and looks great doing it. I get compliments everywhere I go!

You may be wondering how to get one of these amazing bags for yourself. One option is to go to the Lo and Sons website and get 25% off thru the end of October using the code RDWARRIORETTE2013. Another option is to enter this giveaway! One reader will win an O.G. in their choice of color. All you have to do is leave a comment answering the following question: What is the most important thing you look for in a travel purse? The contest will end Monday, October 28, with the winner chosen randomly soon after. As always, only one entry per person.

Good luck!!!

  1. I think most travel purses have decent organizing pockets, but being stylish and big enough on top of that is a rare combination. This bag has all of this, and I need it badly!

  2. I always look for a smaller, “go to” pocket where I can keep my phone and boarding pass.

  3. Multiple compartments- like a cellphone compartment, a compartment for my keys, compartment for my gadget charger 🙂

  4. I think the most important thing to look for in a travel purse is easy, one-handed access to essential items, such as your phone, wallet, keys, and passport. The best options are when there is a well-organized pocket on the outside of the bag.

  5. When it comes to a travel purse, I’m looking for lots of organizational space, a place to safely hold my laptop, and fabric/material, that can be cleaned fairly easy. Oh, and it should also be cute. Thankfully Lo & Sons meets all my criteria 🙂

  6. Easily accessible pockets- I hate having to root around inside a bag for my boarding ticket and wallet.

  7. I am so in love with Lo & Sons! I’ve entered into so many of these giveaways and I sure hope this will be the one I win!

The most important thing I look for in a travel purse is the straps: long enough to comfortably/conveniently carry on my shoulders. Pockets/organization, style, and durability are also very important.

  8. Durability yet stylish! Goodness knows us women beat the heck out of our bags so they have to last long while also looking stylish. 🙂

  9. a strap that fits comfortably over my shoulder & lots of organizational features. durability & good, high quality zippers are also really important!

  10. Most important thing for me is durability and space. I get sent to the most random places and I don’t check my bag. I travel with my camera and company laptop that are used for presentations. If anything happened to them, it is the end of the world!

  11. The most important thing to me is that a bag is functional, aesthetically pleasing and light weight. Water resistant is a biggie too.

  12. A separate, tidy compartment for an extra pair of shoes. That way I can quick-change between the airport and the next office meeting!

  13. Ahhh, would use the heck out of this bag! As a photog. the most important thing is a safe bag for my camera… these bags are great for it all! As long as I can get a sippy cup for the babes & my Canon, it’s fab in my book!

  14. It must be big enough and organized enough to carry all the travel essentials while making them easy to access.

  15. What i look for most is something with a lot of zipper compartments, so I can stay organized!

  16. The straps need to fit comfortably around my shoulder and stay in place. I’ve been coveting these bags online!

  17. A zippered outside pocket. I need to know that when I reach for my phone after landing in 12A it hasn’t taken an unexpected ride along the floor to 4A.

  18. a lightweight bag that is chic enough to carry– alleviating the need for packing extra handbags!
